dining room

Hello sweet friends!  I know, it has been a while... and we have a lot of catching up to do!

As you know, I've been a happy homeowner for almost six months now.  It's time to get motivated, and make this place my own - turn this empty house into a love-filled home.  Instead of getting bits and pieces of furniture for each room, I am trying to focus all my attention on one room.  For whatever reason, I picked the dining room.  Who knows, maybe I'll learn to cook more so I can host and have people over for dinner :)

As everyone knows, I love the color purple.  If I'm ever going to have a purple room, now is the time to do it.  I bought some blue tape, spackle stuff, and a gallon of paint.  The color you ask?  "Sleepy Hallow"... think of a purple/gray color at dusk.  It looked great on the swatch, but on the actual wall itself?  You be the judge.
I blue taped!

My Dad called and claimed to be the world's best painter.  This is an actual fact.  He drove up from Chesapeake to paint my dining room purple - what a true man, and an awesome dad!

Ready to be painted!

My brother Rick rode up with my Dad to help me with my yard.  Most of the leaves had fallen, and I hadn't touched them.  Not one.  He brought a blower, and we both raked and bagged so many leaves.  I think we ended up with 11 bags at the end, which is a lot for my small yard.

Ok, now this is going to sound weird, but stick with me - my Dad is a proud parent.  Like, oddly proud.  He really likes to take random pictures of me doing something really "awesome".  What can I say, some parents are crazy proud when their kids are star athletes - my Dad is proud that I can do yard work.  I don't know what that says about my Dad... or actually, I don't know what that says about me - either way, I love you Dad!
This photo is not staged - I really did rake!

Action shot!  Mowing the grass!

While Rick and I continued to do yard work, my Dad started with the trim and just went crazy with the paint - within a few hours, I had a purple dining room.
Getting started...

So, what do you think!?!??!
Dining room AFTER!

You know me, I had to pose around my new, purple dining room!

 Finishing touches...

Dining room AFTER!

Alright, so who wants to come over for dinner?!?!  I just learned how to make manicotti... and it's pretty good if I do say so myself.

I decorated my home for Christmas - it is truly nice and cozy (even with the heat at 63 degrees).  I am going to keep my decorations up for one more week.
My Christmas tree!

The dining room is complete.  The living room will be next - stay tuned!
