Meet my friend Nick

My friend Nick is awesome. Really cool guy. I met him on the retreat last Fall. We usually sit together at Frontline, but we also frequent the bars together as well. We went out to Clarendon Ballroom a few weeks ago - and to get in, they stamp your hand to make sure you are of age. I really want to know what kind of ink they are using, because the stamp stays visible for a solid three days and THEN begins to fade. I get a text from Nick while I was at work saying, "I wonder if my Clarendon Ballroom handstamp meets the White House dress code..." Nick works for THE MAN, so he always dresses like a baller when he goes to work. He was confident that the stamp matched his tie nicely that day, and that the Pres would be sporting one soon as well.
Nick's "office"

Another interesting thing about my friend Nick, is he is friends with everyone. We were standing around one day and Nick, out of no where, mentions how he loves watching people interact with other people (who doesn't love people watching??), especially how people interact with homeless people. And even how homeless people interact with other homeless people. Apparently there is this one homeless guy that Nick passes everyday on his way to work. Nick's homeless friend always gets super excited to see Nick and says, "Good morning young fella! My main man!!". Nick always smiles back, waves, and replies. This homeless guy now recognizes Nick every single day, and every day is always excited to see him. So of course I kindly tell Nick that I'm sure this homeless guy is just acting excited to see him so he can get some cash out of Nick. Nick completely disagrees - Nick knows he's friendly and thinks the homeless guy can see the sincerity in his good morning reply.

As you all know, we've had a lot of snow recently. I received a worried text from Nick stating that his homeless friend wasn't there the first day when it snowed... and that he missed him. Nick tried to stay positive and mentioned how he'd like to think his friend was somewhere warm, eating a nice meal, and silently wishing that young fella a good morning. I told Nick that if he gave his friend some cash, he would realllly be his friend. I also tried to get Nick to take a photo with his homeless friend. But Nick quickly shot that idea down, and stated that he couldn't give his homeless friend any money - because that would make their friendship totally awkward. He then said, "Think about it. Have you ever offered an acquaintance money to take a picture with them? Unless they are Santa it is socially inappropriate." Nick has a very valid point!

So the snow kept coming down, and I received yet another concerned text from Nick saying he hasn't see his homeless friend for three mornings. Nick guessed he was on vacation in Florida. Apparently homeless people get a lot of leave.

Nick's homeless friend loudly wishes, "Good mornin' young fella!" to him every day from the spot on the left side of the picture.

After crossing H street, Nick can see his homeless friend standing there. As you can tell from the snow, he is on an extended vacation in Florida.

This is Nick standing in his friend's spot.
