our God is great

Back in September, I received two free tickets to Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden.  I have only been there once for a wedding, but didn't get the opportunity to tour the garden.  I've been told that it is one of the top 10 places to visit in Richmond.  Apparently the scenery is beautiful and there are flowers for days.  After Hurricane Irene and the up-and-down weather, I didn't think anything would be alive.  Not only was everything alive, it was  breathtaking.

Alisa (Allison's mom) and I walked all over the garden.  Even though it was overcast, the temperature was in the high 70's.  It was a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon and I'm glad I spent it with Alisa.  She's like a mom to me - I'm always learning from her.  I'm constantly asking her questions about life, love, faith, and the like.  She also reminds me of Allison, but that's just an added bonus :)  I was in awe over all the different colors and variety of flowers that were in the garden - it was truly astonishing.

Lots of colors!

Peppers!

There were so many different shades of purple.  I had to pause just to take it all in - I couldn't get over at just how much purple there was, and you know I love purple :)  After seeing all these beautiful flowers, I don't know how someone couldn't believe in God.  Who else could have imagined any of it?  Let alone created it?

This past week in community group, we were discussing what it means to be in awe of God, and how often times we're not.  Someone gave the example that they have seen numerous sunsets in their life - tons.  Yet every time, every single time, they stop.  They stop in awe and stare at how beautiful and magnificent the sunset is.  When was the last time you stopped and took in the beauty of God's work?  Be in awe of our awesome God.

This looks like it could be out of Harry Potter

"When they see among them their children, the work of my hands, they will keep my name holy; they will acknowledge the holiness of the Holy One of Jacob, and will stand in awe of the God of Israel."

  1. Romans 1:20 - For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities--his eternal power and divine nature--have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse.
