Last Sunday I went to the Mummy exhibit at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. Laura and I met two of our friends (Emily and Morgan) there for the afternoon. I'm not really into mummy's but figured this would be a great thing to see and learn about, especially since it is only in Richmond for a short amount of time. The exhibit starts off with a 3D movie where everyone gets to wear rockin' glasses. The movie was a little dark, so I would reach for Emily's hand when I got scared. Emily thought this would make for a great first date. The movie shows the unwrapping of Nesperennub's (an Egyptian priest) mummy. Even though this fellow lived 3,000 years ago, it's amazing that technology can give us a relatively good idea of what he looked like. The exhibit itself showed Nesperennub's mummy and coffin, along with other Egyptian related objects.
We also got to see the Elvis exhibit (for free!) which was really cool. I am not a huge Elvis fan, but all the black and white photographs were taken right before Elvis got really popular. Some of the images were of him located here in Richmond!! It was really cool seeing pictures of him at the Jefferson and the Mosque Theatre (now known as the Landmark Theatre). I thought it was pretty wild. All in all, it was a very fun and educational Sunday afternoon!
Me and Laura outside the VMFA
I am thinking of becoming a member of the VMFA - after you see two exhibits, the pass is already paid for... something to think about!
