It's the most wonderful time of the year... Some friends of mine celebrated Advent by cooking dinner and lighting the "purple" candle. Ok, so we couldn't find purple -- we had to improvise and use red. We also didn't have an Advent wreath, so we filled a mason jar with pebbles to hold up the candle. The circle of the wreath reminds of us of God Himself, His eternity and endless mercy. The green reminds us of the hope we have in God for newness, renewal, and eternal life. The candles symbolize the light to the world that Christ brings.
But during Advent, we remember the wait for Jesus' birth. We look ahead to - and prepare ourselves spiritually for - His return. The Advent season begins 4 Sundays before Christmas Day and ends on Christmas Eve. Each Sunday, one of the candles gets lit. Let the celebration of Advent begin!!

We each have our own gingerbread house
So each Sunday night before Christmas, the four of us will get together and celebrate Advent. Laura cooked a wonderful meal --- I am cooking next week... how hard can it be to mess up tacos!?
